Hello folks, American living in Hungary here. I'm looking for 4WD vehicles to buy and came across two disco's that have me confused. One is a '99, the other an '02. Both state they have the 139hp 3.5 V8 . How likely is it that a P38 and L322 both have an engine they weren't listed asavailable with? (Wiki). It should have been a 4.0/4.4 respectively. I'm wondering if the former registration has been doctored to garner a lower registration tax. I don't know how it's done in the UK, but in Hungary it's based on age and engine fuel, and displacement. I'm nowhere close enough to inspect for myself, so I can only go by the ad itself. Each are being sold by a private owner on either side of the country so I don't believe it's a dealership scam. Any ideas? Thanks

Just for clarification, you say 2 Discos, but then mention P38 and L322?????

Cheers

"borrow" a picture of each vehicle from the ad, and put it up on here - we'll tell which vehicle they are ..... :)

So it seems I'm just a victim of random terminology. Thanks! :p

And random pricing too, by the looks of it ... the one with 400K on it is dearer than the one with 180K on ..... er ....

( not that you'll be buying it based on mileage ... condition is everything .... but 400K is getting long unless the maintenance and service history is absolutely spot on )

Right it's off, but I'm still confused by the 3.5 engine as I'm seeing the L318 Series II 1998-2002 models were upgraded to the 4.0 V8

Indeed - the 3.5 will be a typo, probably - the TD5 is 2.5 ltr capacity - and the petrol V8's were the same capacity as those in the later D1's - just "re-named" 4 liter

Both are diesel. Advertised also on local website. There are 3 petrols currently for sale (all are more expensive)

Honestly dude, I'd pass on both of them. This is coming from a fellow "yank". lol
The seller doesn't even know wth he's got for that crazy amount of money.

On the local website both are correctly described. Regarding on price...in hungary they are cheap ones. Good ones are starting from about 6500€.

I'm saying if the seller can't even get the basic info correct to sell it, do you think they properly took care of the Disco? Probably not.
I might as well sell my Disco as a "2001 Disco 1 with a 300TDI 4.0L engine and a newly rebuilt manual transmission torque convertor".

Discovery 2 Diesels are very good though, more reliable than the V8, and a remap can make them quicker
