Hello folks, American living in Hungary here. I'm looking for 4WD vehicles to buy and came across two disco's that have me confused. One is a '99, the other an '02. Both state they have the 139hp 3.5 V8 . How likely is it that a P38 and L322 both have an engine they weren't listed as available with? (Wiki). It should have been a 4.0/4.4 respectively. I'm wondering if the former registration has been doctored to garner a lower registration tax. I don't know how it's done in the UK, but in Hungary it's based on age and engine fuel, and displacement. I'm nowhere close enough to inspect for myself, so I can only go by the ad itself. Each are being sold by a private owner on either side of the country so I don't believe it's a dealership scam. Any ideas? Thanks

I know nothing about Disco's but it sounds odd to me. By the way this is the Range Rover section, the Discovery section might know more.
If you want something reliable go for Toyota.

The P38 and the L322 are Range Rovers....

The P38 ran from 1994 to very early 2002 and came in 2.5 I6 Diesel, 4.0 and 4.6 Petrol V8's (Overfinch also did some tasty 5litre versions).
The L322 ran from 2002 to 2011(ish) and were 3.0 I6 Diesel, 4.4 Petrol V8 (BMW and Jag engines), 4.2 Supercharged V8, 5.0 Supercharged V8, 3.6 TDV8 and 4.4 TDV8.

Discovery's are different beasts and I am not sure there particular specs....but as above, pop into the Discovery section and query there also!

My Bad....The Original Overfinch Classic was a 5.0....then the 570... was a 5.7

You are correct the classic did start with the 5.0. So maybe my bad for history but not in the P38.

But this guy is talking discos anyway:eek:

Not sure he is talking discos, he specifically says that one is a p38 and the other is an L322.
I don't think he realises that a disco is not a RR!

If you look at his thread in Disco forum he is speaking Disco. The ads say Disco and he is just confusing himself. The perils of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing ;)

And trying to confuse everyone else at the same time :D
