Help! How can I temporarily make my loud exhaust system quieter?

In one word, the exhaust system fitted to my 3.9 V8 90 is LOUD! It has standard manifolds, leading into a cherry bomb centre box and then straight through (no silencer) to tail pipe. As you can imagine, this results in a stunning noise, albeit a very unneighbourly one!

Has anyone found a suitable temporary silencer which can be added to the end of the tail-pipe and removed once I have left my neighbours behind? From previous track day experiences, I have seen such things, but can't seem to find them anywhere and don't know whether they'd be suitable for a 90V8?

Can anybody help, or does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can practically and temporarily quieten down my 90 without pushing it away from the village I live in? I don't know how long my neighbours will put up with the noise for!

You could fit a proper silencer so as to not make a stupidly annoying noise everywhere you go and fit a big flashing neon sign on your roof instead saying "LOOK AT ME....LOOK AT ME!"

think you worry to much about the neighbours

nothing better that a straight throw starting up at 6am on a sunday morning to to laning :p:p

i would worry about mot time

Not just MOT the law has been for a long while now that a vehicle can not be louder than a similar vehicle with a stock exhaust, A scooby boy got done round here the other month, thus not on MOT but Fuzz and VOSA can have you bent over, Have a look at Demon tweeks they will do silencers with removable baffles as different tracks have different Db limits thus the cars need to be able to suit

Here you go have a read

There is a couple of ways I know the basic one is Spark plug in the end pipe which is illegal, Running Rich is another way, And A REAL posh way ive seen is a chopped up carb mounted to the zorst pipe so you can spray fuel into the zorst :whoosh:

Whilst driving, leave the car in gear, turn the ignition off, a few pumps on the gas, and then turn the ignition back on (only works with a carb though). Did that in a company van in Trafalgar Square once - didn't half make the pigeons shift en masse, as well as **** en masse too. Somewhat irresponsible, I know, but my workmate was rolling about like the Smash advert Martian which was just as funny as seeing the septics and chinks feeding the birds being covered in guano.

Worked a treat in the Hyde Park underpass too

Had a neighbour who`s transit camper had ignition probs, was revving that, cut out, then caught,
blew a feckin huge hole in the silencer....lol...

Yep or a good hard right foot down then quickly off the gas so it goes onto over run then wait for the BANG BANG BANG:D:D

:nothingtoadd:

Ok, I know / have seen this, but used with a can of propane via a solinoid gas tap,
have the entry point before the spark plug, running off another boot mounted coil, when you swich the lot on, its triggered by the engine coil via a take off, or run by a spark inducer like that of a cooker or gas fire.

I seen it on a cossy sierra..

B I G flames....
