Hopefully someone can help.
I have a 2009 FL2 2.2 DIESEL Manual Gear.
About a month ago, going to work, I was a low speed in 2nd gear, when the revs shot up, but I came to a stop, no power/drive.
I thought I'd knocked it into neutral, but the gear was in 2nd.
Put it into 1st, and it revved, but car would drive, (as if in neutral).
Turned ignition of and on several times and tried to engage 1st gear, no luck just revved like in neutral.
Parked it up and came back to it 30 mins later and started it up, and it kicked into 1st and I slowly drove to nearby garage.
Hes had a look at it and drove it around, said whilst driving it, it did it once, but came back to it later and corrected itself, like it did with me.
Said "IT'LL PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT UNLESS IT DOES IT AGAIN, I CANT FIND THE FAULT"
Took it home and drove it for 1st time and did it again after 5 mins
.
Again after 10 mins restarting, engaged into 1st and I drove slowly home.
Any ideas guys????

Does it only do it in 1st and 2nd?
What happens if you try 3rd or 4th?

I'm surprised a garage can't see what's wrong with a few minutes investigation though. It's just a normal manual gearbox car, with additional AWD stuff bolted on.

1st time it was in 2nd
Last time it was in 4th or 5th.
So you need to ascertain weather.
A: The gears are actually being selected by the gear control assembly.
B: The gearbox selectors are moving the gears to the correct position in the gearbox.
C: Prove the clutch is actually transferring the engine power to the gearbox.
D: Prove the engine power is actually coming out the gearbox to the wheels.

A garage that can't work out all of those things in a reasonable time, isn't much of a garage IMO.

Ditch that garage and go to one that has proper skilled Land Rover mechanics. I would steer clear of the ones you went to. You will probably pay 4 hours labour just for them trying to work out how to open the bonnet by the sound of things .

Sounds like a pretty 'standard' mechanical type issue to me.

Modern car electronics might be scary to a garage, but this isn't.

It looks to be happening randomly when you put it in gear, but also randomly whilst in gear - so my thinking is not gear selectors.

Happening in all (or most) gears - so unlikely to be a shaft in the box - apart from the input shaft, but all gears?

My guess is that its before or after the box - so clutch or splines to the diff/PTU. Not sure how you could tell which.

When it loses drive, does it make a bang or anything?
