Help! I am in desperate need of a co-driver for LANDY RALLY 15-21 September 2007, the non-speed European Charity Drive that spans 8 countries in 7 days.
To cut a long story short, due to work commitments getting in the way of play (they often do) my co-driver/navigator has reluctantly had to pull out of the event at the eleventh hour.
Now, with only three weeks to go I am left high and dry. Granted, I may be the Organiser of Landy Rally and obviously not competing myself, but realistically there is no way I can drive 2,300+ miles on my own hence this appeal. Details follow:-
1. Duration Arrive Bournemouth on Wednesday 12th September, depart Thursday 13th Sept 11.00 hrs for Dover ferry at 16.30 hrs. Return ferry 10.00 hrs Sunday 23rd September, back to Bournemouth. The event starts and finishes in Calais.
2. Intention As Officials, I (or rather we) would liaise with the Event Manager and other Officials/Marshals to keep the event running smoothly. Dont panic, this would be very simple as the technical stuff would be done by us, plus we already have a recovery vehicle and basic medical cover.
3. Requirements Being a non-speed event, just an ordinary standard UK driving licence is all that is needed. No special navigation skills are required as a detailed Road Book and maps will be provided; IT WILL BE VERY SIMPLE TO NAVIGATE. The split is 40% share of driving, 60% navigating, plus generally helping out with the basic event paperwork, etc. The vehicle is a 1989 3.5 litre V8 Range Rover Classic with auto box. Mainly driving on tarmac, although ¾ of a day will be spent gentle off-roading at a 400 hectare off-road site (the biggest in Europe) at Val dIsére in France, plus about 1 days laning split between France and Spain.
4. Cost to you £400 (this covers half the fuel and the additional RR insurance for you to drive) + your food/booze spending money. I will cover the 10 nights camping fees, ferries, European breakdown cover, remainder of fuel, your prize-giving dinner Friday night at the Café de Paris in Calais. I reckon £600 to £700 should cover everything start to finish including your spending money.
5. Special skills Not a lot actually! Mechanical knowledge of Land Rovers (especially Range Rover Classic) would be useful but not essential, basic office skills (paper-shuffling) and laptop knowledge useful but not essential. What is essential is a sense of humour, willingness to help out where required, and most important of all the ability to mix with like-minded enthusiasts; PARTY POOPERS NEED NOT APPLY!
To get a better overall picture of the event, have a butchers at www.landyrally.com , the event forum and the teams own websites where youll get a flavour of the crews all-important charity fund-raising efforts - I am proud to say that to date 28 charities are being supported!
Either email me (Tom McGuigan) on [email protected] or phone 01202 421284/07958 216266.
BTW, as Im in the process of posting this appeal on heaps of other Land Rover and 4x4 forums/messageboards, if you do know of anybody interested, please ask them to contact me ASAP - ta!
Thanks for letting me post this appeal on the forum.
