hi

Hope I've made this right!! Really need some advice on my 53 freelander!! Has it for two nearly three years now, our first landrover but worked with some in the past but have tried doing a lot of work on this one myself!! Is been brilliant until last week.

Firstly offered to help jump start some, drive round, pull the handle for the bonnet and bonnet cable snaps!! Naturally I've looked at forums for that, for a bit of an easy life I'm leaving that to the specialist to open up!! However, no sooner has that happened does the engine start squealing like a pig... Faint at first but I seem to attract stray dogs now. Presume it's the auxiliary drive belt (think that's right... Fan belt), can't open it until next week as that's the soonest I could find someone to do bonnet cable. Now the engine seems to be getting hotter than normal and there's no heating?? Is this all connected to the drive belt or could this be a hat trick of issues, all separate??

Help and advice would be brilliant here.

Nathan, not knowing what engine you have.... In my TD4 the water pump is driven by the multi-ribbed belt - if this has gone, the water won't circulate to the heater matrix (internal radiator for heat) - it also won't circulate water anywhere else, so it's not a good idea to run the car to temperature without the belt.
If you are running a 1.8 Petrol.... stop the engine, and don;t drive it until the belts are done... the head gaskets are bad enough without throwing an unused water pump into the mix... the V6.... I think (not sure) is the same.....

thank you, probably should have mentioned that! It is a td4 so at least that answers that!!! Thank you for getting back to me!! I'll see if the garage can bring the bonnet job forward

If you've searched out the bonnet cable posts you'll know it's not that difficult, and you will be more sympathetic to the surrounding paint etc

Thank you. The ones I saw seemed to imply that due to the air con unit it's a challenge to get round and access to the parts that'll release it. Have you got a link for any other ones? I'll have another nosey about!

Nathan,
This post should point you in the right direction for the bonnet release.... hopefully.

Brilliant, followed this through to one called an awful design!! By the looks of it you helped there too!! Thank you, don't know why I couldn't find any of that originally. Most the ones I found said about knocking through cover plate in the grill, then taking the whole grill off!! Hence I chose to avoid this option personally!!

Again thank you both.
