Hello,
I'm in the process of changing my chassis for a new galv one.
Problem is, my 90 is a 3.5 v8 (as came off the line at Solihull), LT85 county.
The chassis I have to replace it with is a new TD5 one off flee-bay (no chassis number).
I understand that VOSA, DVLA and the police seem to be tightening up on all things non-standard with modified chassis etc, I also understand from reading other forums that the EU is keen to have its member states tightening up on MOT type inspections to throw up items that have been modified from manufacturers standard equipment in order as I understand it to force things to be IVA'd (or SVA'd) / off the road from 2012 (if not 2012, I'm sure its thin edge of the wedge and it will come in sometime later if there are mutterings now).
Given that the chassis is already glav'd, any mods I do to it (and it appears to only require two mods [grind off TD5 mounts, add new engine mounts (v8) + old type rad mounts]) will be very obvious to anyone who knows what a 1989 LR 90 v8 chassis looks like.
1) How do you think this will stack up with DVLA, VOSA etc?
2) Do you think I will be able to keep my 5 points for the chassis?
3) What should I do about the chassis number and stamping it, is there a current consensus on this element (I'm quite happy to drag my old chassis complete off to the DVLA / VOSA / IVA centre to prove the identity when I'm done).
I'd like to retain the 5 points (despite having all 13 at present) as I was thinking about changing the engine (1 point lost), gearbox (2 points lost).
The next question comes with regards to loosing points on "suspension" changes, if it becomes air sprung, are these points gone?
Likewise, if I convert the rear axle to disk from drum (retaining the axle casing, and axle no, i.e. adding Sails calliper brackets + stub axles) do you believe these points will go as well?
Sorry for the long posting, but I thought I'd ask, as someone may have a knowledgeable view on this.
Thanks in advance, king regards
Rob
