Hi all, just a note to say hi, I will be picking up a landrover discovery V8 with lpg conversion. This is my 3rd discovery as I have had 2 200tdi`s in the past. We were unlucky with one as a bolt came out the big end and the crank came loose and that was the end of that for us. I am looking forward to this V8 as I have never owned a V8 before I could do with a little advice please as it comes with a problem, the guy I am getting it off says he thinks it needs a new head gasket as he claims it is losing compression on cyl 1&3. He has had it pressure tested but it is not losing water and the oil is ok. Any ideas people may have to solve the problem would be brill... thanks

You can't beat the V8:D However, they are funny beasts. Get a workshop manual and a haynes book of lies, get a good set of tools and the rest is easy:eek:

I would say, replace the head gaskets anyway, it isn't difficult. Check the cooling system, flush the rad, flush the block, check the fan and thermostat.

While the heads are off take a look at the valves, check the cam followers and if you're bored maybe take the timing cover off and then remove and check the cam shaft. All that is doable in a weekend and hopefully you'll have a sweet running V8 that will keep putting a grin on your face for at least as long as it takes for it to throw its' next hissy fit.

But hey, who cares - you just can't beat the sound of that V8 on full chat an' pullin' 'ard.
