Hello to all,
I have joined Landy Zone after making the decision to get back into 4x4ing. I used live in Saudi Arabia and went on trips the desert with a V8 Grand Cherokee.
I want to start doing trips to places like Morocco and ultimately in about 4 years drive to Cape Town. I want a project. I built a kit car a few years ago and want some thing else to have a go at. I started down the route of getting a Defender 110, but after doing some research I decided on a Discovery 1. I decided this because of the cost and the more refined interiors of the Discovery (for the long trips). I am planning on replacing the suspension and other parts to make it more capable off road. Am I right in saying that with up rated suspension a Discovery would be just as capable as a Defender 110? I was leaning towards the V8 Discovery, but I am concerned about the weight of the engine. Is the 300TDi a better idea for the type of application I am looking at?
If any one has any info, links or thoughts on any of the above, I would be most grateful if you could throw it my way.
