hi everyone, this looks a really great site you have here, i think Land rovers are great especially the Defender and P38 and L322 Rangies although the later 2 are a little out of my price range :(, im really considering buying a 2.5 TDI Defender-around 1990 ish, i think thier great and would look forward to many hours of off roading not to mention the great charecter they have, my main question was is it possible to fit air conditioning to one? and how hard is this to do? and what is involved in doing so?, would i need an engine from an RR classic turbo D or at least some of the parts from it? any help and genuine advice would be very much appreciated.

my main question was is it possible to fit air conditioning to one?

HA aha ah ahaha HHA ahahh hherhehr hha eheha hrhe ahhahe rhhhn ahha hehe hahaah hehhehe ahhahahahah ehhehe hhheeehhahahahwhwhahahahahahwhwheherhrhhahaahh hahahahahwhwwhhaaah ahhahaah **** there goes my hernia.

No offence intended.

is it really that much of a nightmare then?, i think its an important thing to have in london, with all the heat and traffic fumes, will probably just go for a P38 instead then.

It is possible to put air conditioning into a defender, i am not sure how its done but when i first got the landrover, an air conditioning engineer that i know said it would be pretty easy to do if i wanted it done, but i wasn't really bothered about having air-conditioning.

I'm sure you will find something on google if you search it.

i was thinking of getting air con on my motorbike ;)

shouldnt be long before we see it on the Goldwing;)
if i didnt have to drive in london so often i wouldnt be bothered by not having a/c at all, just in the summer and in traffic it can be ratlher unpleasant without it, i want to do some green laning and off roading, would the RR probably be a better bet as it has a few more luxuries in it?

The thing to remember about Rangies is that they're expensive to run, not just to buy. You can pick up an older Rangie for a couple of grand but the fuel costs will soon hurt
The Defender really is basic (air con = the gaps down the side of the doors; heater = a coat), so if you want something with a few luxuries it's not for you.
Why not buy yerself a Disco? The older ones are nice and cheap now, and they're more economical to run and are much more car-like. How about a yellow one? ;)

the Disco while im sure is a brilliant car just doesnt appeal to me in the same way as the RR and Defender, i think what i want to do is get one of the last soft dash RR classics (preferably with lpg) and keep it for a year or so, im going to wait until the L322 V8s drop to £15k trade price (thier already at £21k so a friend who works in a garage tells me) and then get one of them, i dont know if thier very popular with people on this site yet or not though?

Right then so your looking for a.

Whats that worth then five grand or so. But if it hasn't got air-con, you're looking at spending £15k on an L322 ??????

no thats not what i meant, im not in a financial position the afford a L322 yet but in a year i will be able to and they will also be cheaper but i still want a 4*4 in the meantime.

Get yerself a defender then, but get one with working windows. Someone on here once said it takes one hand to wind a landy window down and two to wind it up again, they weren't joking!

If you really insist on fitting A/C in your 110 remember you also have to fill in all the designer gaps aroun the doors, windows, battery compartment etc!!!

Also I have found that the A/C in mine is pretty useless unless you block off the back of the car from behind the two front seats.

Only started using the A/C last week when the temp reached 43 deg C!!!
Before that the open windows worked well!

hi, just to update you all i shall be keeping my current car to use everyday and instead of getting a Defender im going to buy an RR Classic as they seem to be better value to use just for off roading, thanks for all the help and replies though much appreciated.

Hope your pockets are deep and full, mines cost a bomb (91 tdi defender), I'd if you want aircon just open the vent flaps at the front, instant aircon and free. Later models have aircon, but are expensive vehicles. Landy's arent about all that comfort crap anyway, just enjoy them for their brutallity!

GOOD LUCK

im just going to be keeping my normal car for all the comfort side of things and get an RR Classic for off roading and fun, power steering would be nice but other than that im not fussed at all now, oh and to find one without rust on the tailgate would be bliss too:)
