Hello everyone,

My name is Tom and im from south London, you could call it Greater London.
Im now the proud owner of a rather run down landrover discovery 1 from 1994.
I will be attepting to do it up, its runs fine so im likely to do interior, electronics and exterior cosmetics and work up to getting the engine at its peak. Ill be doing it on a budget, and all myself where i can.

Im new to alot of mechanics, I've tinkered a bit with breaks and the usual stuff. Im not new to DIY and I love a bit of woodwork and other craft. I did 3d print a part to the car (hand break gaiter retaining clip) which fit very well, but was not stong enough.

I look forward to contributing to the forum and benifiting from the cumulative years of experience that no doubt, the community holds.

Welcome aboard :)

Congrats on the D1 purchase - good call in my book - ( we have two !! ) - looks like a 200 series from your avatar..... is it a V8 by any chance ????

Welcome tom, another soft southerner just like me where about are you ?? I'm Bromley for my sins. Decent forum this even if you did buy the wrong car ...:p

haha i will be in caterham from the end of the month. I didn't have much choice in the matter come to mention it, my dad bought it a while back, sadly he passed a way a few years ago and I decided to take it on.

Hiya Tom,
What Engine you got? is that a 200tdi or 300tdi?
Cheers

I wish I knew guys. All i know is that it is an L plate, 1994, diesel, 2.5L. One description i read says its easy to tell from the grill, in that case its a 300.
But that doesnt seem like a reliable way to do it

Did I mention I was new to the mechanics? :)

Does it have a single 'serpentine' belt driving the water pump, alternator etc with a tensioner mounted near the top of the engine, or does it have seperate 'Vee' Belts for the ancillaries??

Serpentine is 300Tdi, multiple belts is 200Tdi.
