Hi there,

Just discovered this useful looking place whilst hunting for info on a possible Discovery purchase. Where's the best place to post to get some buyer's info on this site? In here? Or the specific forum for the vehicle? :confused2: If it helps, the one I'm looking at is a '93 V8, 3.9L, manual petrol, 3 door.

Eye thang ewe. :)

:welcome2: wot sort of money, any pic's

Not got any pics I'm afraid but it's just like this one...

... it's the same colour and interior by the looks of it, although the one I'm looking at has some sort of compass style graphics on it.

They are asking £500 for it. It's taxed til October this year and the MOT runs out in May, I think. Mileage is fairly low at something like 83,000-ish and it's pretty clean inside. (Doesn't actually look like it's done a hard day's work in it's life TBH). It's been kept at the seller's holiday cottage for quite a while, which could explain the low miles, and apparently has FSH, which I'm waiting to see. <edit> The owners are both lawyers so they aren't short of a bob or two and he is apparently keen on 'doing things right'. The oil on the dipstick was nice and clean so it's obviously not done many miles since it was changed therefore I'd be inclined to think that it might be a well cared for car.</edit>

It was kept in their garage until a couple of months ago when a new Defender punted it out to the driveway. The door sills looked in good nick and there were no bad signs of corrosion anywhere on the bodywork that I could see, although the spare wheel nuts don't appear to have been removed once since it was new! (They look very rusted on). It also has a towbar with twin electrics.

Not sure exactly which model it is, as in level of trim, but it has 7 seats, cloth interior, elec. windows and mirrors and a rear parcel shelf. A quick look round revealed that the back box of the 'zorst has a hole in which is almost the same size as the exit pipe, so that definitely needs replacing. It hadn't been started for a few weeks but fired up on first attempt although it was a bit spluttery to begin with. This cleared up after a minute or so of idling but after a very short test drive the revs were hunting a little on tickover.

Is there anything I need to look out for or anything specific that should have already been done? Cambelt? Head gasket? I realise it's difficult to gauge for anyone who's not seen/driven it but does £500 seem about right for this age? We weren't really wanting a gas-guzzler but if it's cheap and looks to be a good 'un, then I'd be persuaded to go for it. We desperately need a 4x4 where we live, especially as a lot of the roads around here are hilly farm tracks and a 1999 Focus estate isn't quite up to it. :D

The v8 is a chain, make sure you give it a good road test even if you have to put petrol in it, you dunt want one with gearbox problems or overheating. Have a good look around the engine and see if its been taken apart recently .

Lift the rear carpet and make sure the floor is ok, they die because of water leaking in from the roof, also underneath in that area make sure the crossmember is not rotten or the sills or the chassis. Take time and have a good poke around, they rust to death.

Anyway check the disco section and you will get all the stuff you need there, and welcome .
