Disco 2 TD5 2002 Manual gearbox today started whining then it juddered to a holt and ABS light was on.
Did this a few times just at low speed. felt like brakes where on. Got a tow home with engine on out of gear and noise was there but didn't judder to holt.
Noise seems to come from dash/gearbox and doesn't change when clutch is pressed/released or with engine speed when out of gear.
Tried to show a friend but wouldn't do it, noise was still there even when not in gear.
It was the harsh judder to a stop that concerned me.

Update after trying to drive again.
The noise to me sounds like water rushing through a radiator in the house that needs bleeding but louder.
It doesn't do it in reverse but does it as soon as I start moving, even at about 2mph and doesn't change much.
It's there if clutch is in or out and in gear or neutral.
I noticed costing to a stop in neutral just before coming to a stop where was a prop shaft type of slap noise.

Deffo sounds like something drivetrain.
Does a disco have a transmission brake like a defender?

A start might be to jack it up all four wheels off the ground and reproduce the noise by hand if you can.

Then take off front prop and drive it (will need diff lock) see if there noise is there then repeat for rear prop - this will tell you which end of the vehicle is the problem

Thanks for reply Flat Yes it has a transmission drum brake. Tried jacking each wheel up in turn and turning each wheel by hand to see if I could hear anything grinding .
If I was to take prop shafts off you say (will need diff lock) but on DIsco 2 its done of the ABS, so would this be possible?
When it did the sudden juddery stop wasn't sure if it was machanical or the ABS.

Oh right if you haven't got an actual mechanical diff lock then I don't know if that will work sorry.

Try Jack it up off the ground completely so all 4 wheels are off the floor and turn the wheels by hand. I don't know how safe it would be to actually run the car in gear when jacked up in case it slips off lol
