Hi chaps. thought I would try this forum out again as my setp son has just joined after getting his first Disco.
Knew I could convert them to the dark side :flame2:
Unfortunatly while I could log in and use messaging with my old megatoad account I could not post or reply !! So onto my other alterego
Well I am a Yorkshireman that has found himself in Herts for the last 15 years.
I started life dreaming of Land Rovers, well I was at most 4 years old! Even as a small chld I would whistfully look at Land Rovers and quietly "poot poot" under my breath.
Finally in 1991 I bought my first LR. A 1969 S11a 109 safari with Perkins 4203. I had a lot of fun with that, at the same time my older brother whith whom I shared a house became custodian of a friends S1 88" and the madness began.
A first year in Penine LRC proved unrewarding so we joined Yorkshire the following year and have been a member ever since. Ironically many of the folk in Penine were also YROC and much friendlier at those events and are still good pals today.
When the Perkins coughed its guts up, out it came and a V8 was chisled in. This lump was a disaster and barely ran but it did supply the adaptor plate, flywheel and clutch. An SD1 V8 was rapidly sourced and wow what fun.
As funds permitted I added S11 88 that I hoped to trial to the garden, but just offraded it on the adjacent demolition site. After the 109 was incapacitated after a front end cllision it was replaced by a 1972 Range Rover, this time with a Perkins 4236 !!
Then a mate offered me a project, a pile of bits loosly resembling an 80" with a roll cage that I hoped to CCV. Unfortunatly the roll cage was too old for ALRC regs and work had taken me to Bristol leaving my Land Rovers on his garden, which slowly over time were sold off.
Several years went by with SAAB following SAAB, until I visited the Pickering Steam Rally where YROC members were camped. My brother had just bought a very nice 200tdi Disco that had been used for Warn challenges and let me drive. 2 months later the SAAB 9-3 convertable was replaced by a 300 tdi Disco ES.
This I ran for a few years until the new wife decided we needed a NEW car and made me get rid of it for a Corsa!
Well I moaned and groaned, then in the meantime somone offered me my old restored 80" back. This was rapidly aquired and upon taking the missus to the 2011 ALRC nationals and letting her ride shotgun in the RTV she mentioned that OK maybe we should get another Land Rover.
And that friends is how 6 weeks later HWA a 5 year old 110 XS station wagon replaced the Corsa.
Then recently to my delight djdommyp decided he wanted a Disco and the rest is history.
I confess I also spend my forum time on LRSOC and Defender2.net but this seems to be a good place too.
So you may hear more from me soon.
