Hello all,
I don't yet own a landy  but the plan is to buy an old Defender around "1983 - 1985" and a workshop manual then get to work on it..

I have never worked on a landy before but i have done basic mechanics on a lot of Farm machines and the like. I know i can get all the parts cheap enough to do anything/everything in my capabilities. Might come unstuck with changing the engine and gearing as i expect ill eventualy put a TDI engine and gearing in.

Can you put me on to a local enthusiasts club?

hello big mark from goudhurst. best buy yourself a workshop manual first, then see if you still want one. sayin that if you have worked on tractors then you should be ok with the landy :D only joking.

Aye up fella - if you can wield a spanner a bit then you'll find a 90 or a 110 (they're only 'defenders' after 1989 or so - not that it makes a difference really) is pretty straightforward to repair yerself.

As it's Land ROVER and as such was part of BLMC and latterly the Rover group, they did have a 'nasty tricks' dept. when they were designed so there's a few 'tips n tricks' here and there to make life easier.

If you're looking for a local 'enthusiasts club' for technical advice, then you're already in the right place ;)

Cheers,
