Recently bought my first Discovery..it's a '97 R reg and I paid £450 for it...yes there's a catch... the guy I bought it from showed me the reciept for £1400 he paid back in April...it blew the head gasket so he got it fixed but not a very good job...he went to Morocco with the wife and kids and it blew the gasket again...he reckons he spent £1400 to get it done out there by Land Rover but on the way home ..yep he had problems...so the long and short of it he limped home stopping to top up the water every now and then...so I bought his problems...I have removed the engine completely with the help of my neighbor who is a mechanic and we stripped it down...we can see on the head where it has blown so we're going to skim the head and the block, new shells, decent gaskets rather than cheap paper, new rings and rebuild her... inside is a little scruffy but should scrub up well...the sunroof on the rear has enough silicone to sink the Titanic but looks awful so that will be done too (exceelent instructions on here), might even give it a respray should cost me about £1400 including the original purchase price when it's finished....right tea break over back to work....
