Hello from ANOTHER new member

Hello everyone. I'm PW, new to the site and the owner of two Landies, one of which has to go, much to my disappointment.

I have had a Series IIA for about two and a half years, 1967, free tax, £80 insurance, agreed value, etc and my wife has put an absolute prohibition on me doing anything except drive about our local villages in it.

However, having bought her a sports car (Audi TT) we now are saying a final farewell to our long term affair with Volvo estates, so we now have to have a Landy that she can drive.

Fortunately, the car dealer that sold us the Audi had a 1998 V8 Efi (LPG Conversion) Discovery which he has let me have for really sensible money as part of the deal.

So - (Finally to the point) - anything I need to know? It's a GS with cruise, etc, who will do the best insurance (ie beat the £300 quote I have had from my heritage vehicle insurer) What do I need to do by way of maintenance?

(PS - Have a look at the advert for the Series vehicle. I'm more interested in a good home for it than the asking price)

Maaaan, I'm sorely tempted. That is one puurdy motor! I have the same problem, my long suffering G/F can make my III go, but can't stop her! I daresn't come home with another daft vehicle............but welcome to the site & best of' with selling your II............Won't be a problem I'm sure, buuuuuut, can't you re-negotiate with her?

I eased my wife into Land Rovers gently - first bought a Freelander. Then when James was born, Freelander not big enough to carry pram.... So we now have nice TD5 Defender Station Wagon to keep the military Series 3 company.

I have to say that the S3 has been more reliable than TD5. There seems to be an issue with quality control of clutch master cylinders.

Yeah thats right mate,
cant get on with computers any road up. As for the sherry its a shortcut to blessed relief mate. I've had my Mum and the Ayathollah for company today. At its worst I was convinced that I was in a bloody hen shed (cackle, sqawk, nag etc) it was verbal drivvel at mach 1.

I did struggle bit with the avatar - but persisted.

As for the series 3, I found it resting in a farmyard near home. It had stood for 5 years or more. Started first time when we got to it. The family of mice living in the back had to move out though.

having just sorted the timing and other troubles, it now runs really nicely.

I'm struggling with the concept of avatars? Is it a part of the clutch mechanism? Should you be able to see it anyway?
