Hello. Posting on here yet again with engine trouble!!!! This morning on the way to work my Landy decided it wanted to immitate the Red Arrows!!! As usual for a cold morning the acceleration was none existent due to the super reliable MAF Sensor, I had just turned off my street and was sat on the main road in traffic ( a distance of about 400yards) when suddenly sooty grey smoke started pouring from the wheel arches and bonnet. I didn't enjoy seeing £23k worth of car smoking so heavily, altho the skool kids stood at a bus stop kerbside seemed to enjoy it!

I pulled to one side n turned the engine off, by this time the oily smell had reached the cabin. I got out and took a look under the bonnet but there was no sign of anything unusual...I checked the oil level and everything, all i found was an under filled coolant reservoir which surely couldn't have caused the smoking, especially as the engine was still cold?? After surveying this i turnedon the engine and none of the smoke was evident. the engine was running like normal, so i drove it to work and back with no reccurences.

What i cannot understand is what the hell caused it?? Does anyone know?? Should i take it to a garage or just keep driving until its next service?? It's just got to a point where im fed up with that crappy engine not being on tune....Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks loads,
Mark

that would be ya diesel heater under your passenger wheel arch there chap! it can get smoky but does sort it self out eventually, dont worry bout it most modern diesel motors have them these days, u can get a timer to start up 1/2 hour before ya get in the car and it will pre-heat your engine and you can be nice a toasty when you jump in ya car!

OK as long as its just that. I aren't right bothered bout being cold for 10mins or so whilst it warms up (got heated seats) its just i feared the worst when i saw all the smoke and then thought of all these stories of how fantastically reliable freelanders are....I know someone with the same unit in their Beemer and im just curious as to what the hell LandRover have done to such a great engine. it beats me anyways... Cheers anyways tho mate
