Heavy Heavy Clutch series 2A

There must be someone out there who can help this young and nearly knowledgeless newbie. i have just bought an 1967 series 2A 88'. the clutch/matser cylinder has been replaced with seperate cylinders. Both Have been bled through. but i don't know if it is just a usual Landy Quirk but the clutch is a heavy as heavy and takes an age to re-engage. which is ok when pulling away but a pain in the butt when changing gear.
I know thta someone out there must have come across the same problem. any help please!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what you mean be separate cylinders, series landys have an exceptionally heavy clutch, compared with most cars, do you mean that you gotta lift the clutch right up before it engages?

No no the clutch engages fine. as in pedal travel. but am i right in believing that the clutch/brake master cylinder is all in one on a series 2a. but has been modified so it has two one for the clutch and one for the brake. The problem is that when you release the clutch is take like two or three seconds for it to engage.

No the clutch and brake have always used separate master cylinders as far as I'm aware.

you have go a really strange one there, basics first: what fluid you got in the clutch, and is the return spring on the pedal?

God knows what fluid is in it. I've only just bought it. But the bloke that owned it before paid good money for all the work that has been done on it. So its not as somethings been bodged. The return spring is fine. Everything works as it should. but its just all in slow motion. The clutch is heavier than the brake. Its as if the hydraulic is not letting it return fast enough.

just a thought ,but it might be worth having a look at the fluid line from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder ,to rule out it being pinched or kinked ,as this might restrict the flow of fluid to and from the slave cylinder,causing a heavy pedal and slow return .(bit like trying to suck or blow through a straw thats being pinched )

see if you can find another experienced landy/series owner, to drive your car.
the clutch maybe normal!
they are very different from a modern car.

I think you are confused about this joint master cylinder thing.
On some 2a's they share a Reservoir (a Coke can like thing mounted between the two cylinders).
As to the slow engage, try working it for a few days and see if it frees up before you go stripping anything down.

Thanks for the advice. All the lines have been recently replaced as the previous owner had the same problem. so its not that. And a couple of other people have driven it and said how heavy the clutch is. even when i contacted Frog Island who owned it a few years ago and used it as a run around themselves. they rememebered the old beast and commented on how heavy the clutch was too. so as for that i'm stuck. Its done over 20,000 miles with the same problems as far as i'm aware. I wouldn't mind so, but as i'm planning to take her to Timbuktu i think i really need it sorted.
