Morning Krisboats,
Update below
With the sudden drop in temperature yesterday and turning the car over this morning the heater decided to work. Now could this be a coincidence ?
Probably not.
I may just purchase one of those packs from the link you sent as it may go again.
Looking at the circuit digram, if it doesn't work at one or two speeds, yes, If it doesn't work
anywhere at all, its not the pack.
I have heard the Landy's are horrendous for wiring Gremlins ??
RizzleKicks.
No worse than any other car...
I'd say they are worse in terms of general suspension and transmission faults because they have more suspension and transmission in em!
Electrical go/no that varies intermittently with temperature sounds like a bad connection.
Now. Some questions.
Do you have aircon?
Is the fan controlled by a 5 way rotary switch?
Does it not work at all, or only on certain settings. In particular position 5 which is de ice/demist is a bit special? And doesnt use te resistor pack and will switch on the aircon..
Have you checked the fuse?
What age is the vehicle?
There are two likley scenarios with this new information. The first is that you simply have a bad connection or broken wire that fails when it gets warm
A similar possibility is that the fan is simply worm out carbon brushes wise. In which case a new motor is indicated.
the actual wiring that controls the fan
completely, is not very extensive.
Can you use/do you possess, a voltmeter?
Can you read a circuit diagram?
Diagnosing electrical faults that disappear is, by the way. almost impossible. You are talking to an electronic engineer here...we used to use cans of freeze spray to identify bad soldered joints in the hope that that would make them 'happen'. If its wires you are slightly better off, because you can wiggle wires until you find one that cases the problem - and that enables you to track things down more
If the thing is working now, I'd be inclined to leave it until it goes bad again, and then start looking.
