Hi guys,

Had the pleasurable experience of changing the heater matrix o-rings today and I have to say what a pita! The only time in my life I wished I was a 9year old gymnastic contortionist!

So, got the old rings out and they were brittle, cracked and well overdue replacement. Now comes the problem.

Put everything back together, tightened up the bolt, topped up the coolant and started her up. It was like niagra falls! Loosened off, adjusted and tightend up again and now it's more like a fast trickle.

I tried to loosen it off again but I can't. don't want to try too much in case I round it off. Really stuck and can do with some advice.

thanks

mick

I'd get a new stainless allen bolt to replace the screw with.

Makes it an easier job next time you do it.

Did you lubricate the o rings before installing them?

The pipes have cut outs in them that locate on square bosses inside the matrix. They MUST be located correctly and pushed fully home before the clamp is tightened. Lubricate O'rings with silicone grease.

Thanks for the advice. They are the correct o-ring and rinsed them in coolant before installing. Just had another go and I think the screw head has started to round off as it just won't bite.

Short of taking the entire dash out (I'm partly there already lol) and because of the very limited space what do you reckon?

Coolants no good, you need to grease them up. Or at least use a bit of washing up liquid so they enter the housing.

M5 allen bolt with M6 nut under head acting as thick washer (not essential but my bolt was slightly long)
