I've managed to get hold of a TD5 replacement heater matrix in pretty good condition with a brand new radiator that has just been fitted, albeit there's a little bit of surface rust.

My current one is from a 300TDi and looks identical, however when comparing I have noticed a couple of differences. The first one being is that the electric connectors are different. (No biggie, PaulMC kindly supplied the correct one). The second difference is to do with the operating leavers. The one on the top is the normal type using the grubber screw to secure the cable. The operating leaver located at the side is different, there's no grubber screw. I'm a tad confused as to how I am supposed to secure the operating cable.

Any ideas folks.?!

If you're going to fit it then I would strip it down: tape up all the joints with aluminium heater duct tape; replace all the seals; give it a paint and optionally insulate it from the outside. I did this to mine and it actually works now :D

That looks like the lever has come off......

No that is the lever and it functions perfectly if you move it by hand, the issue have is how do I connect the cable.?!

Yeah I'll fully restore it after Christmas, I just want to get some heating in the landy for the kids.

Good idea!!!! :)

If the spindle that comes out of the bottom is the thing that you move then it looks like it's missing something like the bit from the top picture.

Is this the bit:

The full lever is there and works perfectly, however that spike (spindle) appears to be some kind of alternative to the grubber screw which is in the top of the picture. It's got me confused

So Just been out and had a look and it's pretty much as I thought.
That little round clip in your picture comes off and the cable has an eyelet.
Put that on and clip back on job done.
But I assume yours hasn't got an eyelet on the end? just end of a cable.
Pic of mine to show, albeit not great.

I may have a cable if you need one.
I'm wondering if you can swap the arm for the one off the old box?
Again silly little round clip on the arm, take that off and it should come off, provided the tdi ones are removable.

Just realised I have the same problem as you and that the heater cable isn't even connected at dash end.
I guess the later td5's must have used an eyelet.

You could try fitting the td5 motor in the 300 box, you've got to have it out one way or the other.
Or if you're just wanting a heater for now fit it and forget the cable, just set it to open, that's how brothers 90 must have been since he's had it.

That's what I said at first, never tried it though.

It's a clip similar to the ones that hold buggy wheels on- those come off by rotating off and gently prising tangs.

If you try yanking it off the clip will break

Here's a picture of mine in situ in my TD5. You can just see the eyelet on the end of the cable:

Depending on the tools you have available, it shouldn't be impossible to make something . . .
