Any experience of value for money?
Contemplating Delphi OEM ones LINKY at £31.95
Is it worth spending the extra on top of the Bearmach £11.00 set? Or, would I be a prawn to do so?
I'm asking cos something sticking in to the cylinder is worth thinking about and the tip of one of mine has melted (?) off.

Yep, dems da ones....not a bad price either....
Cheers, Saint. I'll get those.
After much faffing on with a compression tester and about three and a half hours talking to neighbours today, I've given up on a compression test I reckon.
Head off tomorrow. :)

You can get the Beru ones from Eurocarparts for £40.57 this weekend with the WEEKEND30 discount code! I bought some a year ago and haven't fitted them yet, too scared that they'll snap, obviously yours are already out.

Cheers, NinkyNonk. I'll have a look at those. Didn't buy them last night, thought I'd wait until I got the head off today. Don't know why.

If I feel brave one day I'll give it a shot, thanks for the tip :)
Mine came out very easily. Spray a bit of penetrating oil around them, leave a while, remove small nut retaining the wire and the wire. They take a 10mm socket. Just gentle pressure back and forth until you ease them out. That makes them sound a nightmare, when mine came out easily.

Euro Car Parts have annoyed me  I was going through the process of buying the glow plugs with the weekend30 code when a window popped up offering live chat. Although I had entered my vehicle details, the page with the glow plugs on didn't have anywhere which said Defender 300Tdi. So, I thought I'd ask them to check. Had to put my email address in , accepting junk mail , though ok then , but when I put my address in and clicked next it said I wouldn't get a response until Monday. Offer over then! There's some on ebay for the same price from rstlandrovers, but I'll need to check them out.

I'll set a torque wrench up to just below the glow plug break off torque and take it steady, no need to rush. Got some PlusGas floating around somewhere. They make pretty much no difference to starting anyway unless it's really cold so may leave changing them until Autumn anyway.

Nightmare, I hate live chat on websites, it's never a smooth process and having slow internet normally means it never works anyway. Luckily EuroCarParts regularly have the 30% off deals, occasionally stretching to 32% for extra special occasions.

Ok, I've settled down from having my tantrum and bought them from Euro Car Parts. :)

What's break off torque, NinkyNonk? Just put a little pressure on them and see what happens. Mine came off VERY easily. It's done 180K miles. I've done 110K of those and never touched them until last weekend. Still came off easy.
The glow plug sticks out of one of these small holes.

I'd imagine the snapping concern is due to problems folk have had with the tip of the plug getting stuck in here. Due to being blocked with carbon etc. Mine was melted on the end and was collecting molten piston and still came out easily :) If your engine is running ok, then the plugs are probably not stuck in.
Gently easing it back and forth, by a few degrees, will tell you if it's loose enough to come out.

I seem to remember there are a few torque figure on the box of the Beru plugs. "Break off torque" is something completely different to do with bearings, but I'm sure there are some figures on the glow plug box which specifies the maximum torque before they could possibly snap or fail. A long time ago since I bought them and they're in a drawer in the shed at the moment though so can't check. May be completely wrong.

Spent a few minutes searching, it's "shear torque" that I think is wrote on the box. Exceed this torque when removing and you risk breaking the plug.

Exceed anythings shear torque and you are likely to break it! I can understand your apprehension to a certain extent. However, there's no harm in applying a little gentle pressure to them to see if they are going to come out easily. Mine took nothing more than that. You will probably be very surprised.
My new ones just arrived.

Unfortunately, it's going to be quite a while before I need to put them in the head. :(
