Hi My 1998 p38 is very cold at the moment. the heater works, I can feel heat at the vents. But the blowers dont blow. I've had to have a guy out to look at it and he tells me that both the motors have got wet and stopped working. Okay not the end of the world I think to myself, then he tells me how much it will cost for him to supply and fit new ones, :)eek: call the undertaker). I have got two second hand ones now, but what I now need is someone to help/tell me how to fit them please :beer2:

You sure it's the blowers and not the fusebox or realy mate? I have the same problem at the moment and mine has traced back to the engine bay fuse box blowing relays!
I would check that for any signs of burning etc... be unlikely for both blowers to go, where did the water come from??
Can tell you where one of the blowers is though. Just behind the glove box. Get that out and you will see one of them sat there staring at you.

I had one like this in yesterday, turned out to be the white/light green earthing wire from the engine compartment fusebox down to C112/8 on the BECM.It had corroded through inside the insulation and gone green. This wire is used to earth the 2 blower relays via the BECM,without this working the fans will not run at all.
The fans do seem to be quite tolerant of the standard fit dosing of water.......

Hi and thanks both, I have electric persent at the motor under the glove box when the blower is switched on, so this makes me think the relay is okay. The guy who came out to check it for me removed the pollen filters and they were soaking wet and full of crap in general, so I need to change these anyway. but he also said the seals around the filter boxes had probably gone and that was how the water had got in. I do have a s/hand fuse box so I will try switching relays first, but I do still need helpful advice on removing the dashboard as I will need to reseal the filter boxes. (do all relays of the same colour do the same job?)
