I have the early type heater controls with the sliders, my the slider that turns the heater on has stopped working, so no heat, it has been playing up for a while sometimes working some not, I am thinking rather than take the whole lot out bypass the switch and put another in its place. has anyone done this

I had the same after some welding was done. Check the plugs in the passenger footwell side panel (by the relays). Mine hadnt been fully pushed home. Remade them and it works fine again :d.

I have had this problem for over a year now, matrix feed pipe got broken when I had the engine about month ago, so pulled dash out and replaced the matrix but never entered my head about the switch problem until now. so I'm pretty sure all connecters are home properly, but will check what you have said it is possible but can't see it being that, as I say I'm thinking bypass the power lines to the heater blower and install a switch inline, I know it will blow full bore but saves having everything out at this time of year again

Took tunnel apart and took facia off turns out it’s the switch as I thought dodgy , do you think they could have made the fixing screws more difficult to get out, I will replace with bolts.
