the heated rear screen has stopped working.
press the button and no light comes on.it feels like switch is faulty.
is it a common fault

Please also bear in mind that the switch light will not turn on until the system confirms that the rear door is securely closed. I do not know how this is sensed, unfortunately.

I broke mine the other day, some wires came loose and when I lowerd the window they caught the copper contacts and snapped them clean off. It's got a dirty great scratch on it anyway though so it's a good reason to replace it.

Mine fail yonks ago.

Press the switch, the light comes on, the mirrors get warm, the rear window does not.

:(

I reckon with my bad luck the rear screen might crack and the Insurance Company would have to pay for most of the replacement costs.

The most common cause of heated rear screen failure is the wiring in the tailgate unlikely the switch.
First I would check the fuse if thats ok then see if you have power either side of the fuse this will illiminate a short circuit.
If that checks out ok then imo its probably easier to remove the tailgate trim before the control panel. There are 4 screws at the bottom of the trim remove those then give the trim a good tug, when the trim is off have a good look at the wiring chances are it has chaffed through somewhere. If it has then repair the loom and happy days!!! If it all checks out ok then check the switch. :)

checked the fuses today and they were ok,put another switch on and that was the same.havent checked the loom but the rear window mech does not go up.think it might be the sensor in the door.
anyone know where that is.

At a guess I would say you probably have some more broken wiring to the tailgate window motor, 9 times out of 10 its wiring and not a mechanical fault. I would get the trim off and check the loom carefully. I've repaired countless tailgate looms.
Might be worth checking the regulator to as the cables fray and snap.

Are you saying the rear window is not fully up ? If not, the HRW will not work.
