juast found out after 5 months i have heated mirrors, i thought smoke was comeing out of them but it was just water vapour, now how do u switch them on and off, also noticed i have a heater windscreen, again where is the switch please. obviouse i have not got a owners manual, its a 1998 l series diesel,

If you have a heated windscreen, the switch is on the lower console, left hand side, just above the rear heated windscreen switch. (FL1)

I believe heated mirrors use the same switch, so the screen and mirrors clear at the same time.

no not there, there is the heated back screen switch then the radio above it , the mirrors are warm all the time engine running and around front windscreen there is a continuous black scribbly thing, which a guy in a disco just told me was a heated front screen but he could not find the switches for either of them.

they are only warm with ign on

That is correct - they are on all the time that the ignition is on even in summer in 35+ C. No thermostat - no switch - that's LR for you.

I don't think that a heated screen was offered as an option on the early Freelanders. Also I have no black squiggly thing around my heated screen. You should be able to see very fine metallic elements in the glass if there is a heated screen.

I couldn't have a heated screen in 2002 - but they upped the spec in 2003 or 2004 - so I got an HSE in late 2004.
