for those of us that use bio or just straight veg, a heated fuel filter is a great mod. It solves many problems!

Here is the first prototype I have made. Its only basic at the minute and works off the heater circuit. Later I will be converting the 110 to a twin tank setup and this will be used on the veg oil system.

just for those of us that acuse me of doing nothing all the time :p

oh im waiting on a new set of hose clips - hence there are none on it yet.

Plumbing it inline will seriously restrict flow to the heater matrix. As its rubbish already I didnt want to make it any worse!

but then it wont get as hot! haha.

Do you mean have the inlet and outlet to the heated filter both on the outlet of the matrix?

What i should probably do is install a throttling valve into the heated fuel filter line so i can play around with how much flow it recieves.

Itll all be reconfigured when i go to a twin tank set up anyway but for the minute. Itll improve flow characteristics of the veg :)

I was thinking in the return rather than flow so not as to take anything from the matrix

I would agree, the flow of water through the matrix is going to be reduced now and it going to flow though what ever way has less restriction... if that is the fuel heater you will have little heat from the heater

The fuel heater is quite restrictive. Its a bit like a static mixer inside. with quite a convuled flow path.

Finally got around to sorting out the 110 today so I get it up and running and check this out. After about 2 minutes it got up to temp and the fuel filter was toasty warm.

Very pleased with how it worked :)

Heater seems unaffected and although still pathetic, manages to puff out the meagre amount of warmish air its always done.

I've fitted the flat plate heaters to all our cars, have you considered insulating the fuel lines? I'm thinking something similar to that stuff that covers the fuel pipes on a v8 in the engine bay. I've also considered insulating the heater.

ive not bothered insulating them. To be fair the fuel filter got really really warm so i dont think theres much benefit in insulating it. Itll just get in the way!

Nice use of jubilee clips? The invisible kind.

To give you a target to work up to see below. Runs 98% veg all year, twin tank, water injection and the interior heater works perfect.

That was an early pic of mine haha. i have since installed it properly. At first it was just to get all the hose lengths right.

Ive got a spare plate heat exchanged I might plumb in but to be fair the heated fuel filter one is working well thus far. Ill continue to experiment.
