I am new to this forum – so not sure if this is the right place to place my question.

Just bought a land rover evoque – just turn 3 last week. Took it for health check (has a service plan) and few issues came up which will cost over a thousand pounds - found this rather expensive. I wouls like to do a few things myself to reduce the cost. This is what the health check recommended:

a) Engine/smoke noise fuel treatment – can anyone recommend a quality/approved treatment?

b) Underbody treatment – can anyone recommend a type of treatment?

c) Heater /Air con operation - Ac Service and Refresh - required?

d) It requires new brakes and discs front and back – where can I buy original parts - does anyone recommend a website?

I am surprised it has these issues for a 3 year old car with 27,000 on the clock!

Many thanks for you advise in advance!

Post in the Range Rover section. They bloody love Evoques

Engine/Smoke; assume it passed MOT as its just reached 3yrs old? if so the emissions meet MOT requirements.
Underbody Treatment; Should not be needed at 3 years old. Manufacturers 12 year warranty on anticorrosion?
Heater / Aircon; does it all work as it should? if it does, no work needed. If it doesn't, take it back to whoever sold it to you and get them to fix at their expense.
New brakes etc; Wot Potus said.
I think "they saw you coming"?

Someone has to.

So am I, take it elsewhere to another mechanic, ideally one you know well with those issues listed and ask for his opinion.

Is this health check service in place by Land Rover or another dealership?

As has been said. Take everything with a pinch of salt apart from brakes and have a look at them yourself. They are pulling your tassle.

In the trade, its known as 'upsell'. It happens everywhere, in every business.

"Would you like fries with that?"

"would you like to go large?"

"biscuit with your coffee?"

At 27k it may need pads, but the rest is upsell

Yes, those vehicle health checks are a way of persuading the unwary to part with their money. The more you interfere with aircon systems the more likely they are to go wrong in the future, in my experience. A little careful measuring with a caliper will determine whether the discs are still within factory tolerances.

Aircon might need doing. Get kwikfit or similar to do it. Emissions would suggest it needs a decent service or even just a long journey with a bit of boot.
