My 1998 freelander has a fault with the headlights u turn them on and the engine dies turn them of and it runs fine

Earth problem maybe? I had a car ages ago that did this, it turned out the earth lead had mostly come off.

check your fuel sensor harness if not hold under inlet manifold (down right screw..)
i cleaned mine few times ago and had this problem, when i fit back the inlet manifold i struggled the fuel sensor harness...
edit: otherwise yes earth problem.
