Hi guys,

Problem on a 2010 TD4 SE Auto. The headlights and tail lights are all working fine. The issue is this - the rotary light switch on the dash has 4 positions, from L to R: Off; Park; Main Lights; Auto. Unfortunately the lights and the switch positions are out of tune - when the switch is Off, main lights are On. So when the switch is on Main, then the lights are off. When the switch is on Auto, only the parks are on (at night). And when the switch is on Park, they are either on or off, depending on whether you're rotating the switch left or right:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:.

I saw somewhere that a FET fails to short circuit, so could this point to a failed FET? If yes, how do I diagnose categorically? And if diagnosed to a FET, how do I repair without having to buy a new "module"?

PS - I do know that the battery was stone flat the day before we bought the vehicle. Could this have confused the ECU or some other electronics somewhere?? Seems the park sensors are also excessively noisy until they get switched off manually, but we can live with that

Have a great evening!

First thing to do is a hard reset.
This is done by disconnecting the battery terminals, and holding the leads together for 30 seconds.
When reconnecting the battery, fit and tighten the positive battery first.
Then connect the negative without allowing it to spark across from a fumbled connection, basically slap the terminal on fast and decisively.

Then try the lights again.

If they're still all messed up, then you will need a code reader on the vehicle, which should point you in the right direction.

Did the hard reset (in the rain) - no change :(. So I'm off to find someone with a code reader. Is there any particular type/brand that works better than the next? Or any type to avoid? Just to be forewarned so I can avoid being relieved of a few hard-earned pennies by someone plugging a round peg into a square hole. So to speak.

If a hard reset didn't fix it, then you'll need the codes read.
IIRC the CJB(BCM) will identify a lamp driver fault, which hopefully will help you track the issue down.
