Possibly due to the amount of snow picking up even more of a reflection, but my headlights seem to be flickering when I go over bumps (and piles of snow/ice)

I don’t think I’m hallucinating, although it’s impossible to look at the front of the vehicle I’m driving.

Would this suggest dodgy connections, ground or something else at fault, before I start to unpick?

On a couple of occasions now I've found this sort of thing was caused by the light switch mechanism being elderly. The full headlight current runs through the switch so the metal contacts get warm and the plastic distorts, leaving them making only intermittent contact. I've found it easier to merely replace the lifght switch and that generally cures it for a few years. Some people modify the wiring so the switch merely trips a relay (or relays) and then the power to the lights can be run through nice thick meaty cable and there's less load on the switch. I've not got round to doing this myself yet.

I'm not saying that's the exact problem in your case, but the sympytoms maytch something I'm familiar with.

I just popped out to the shop and I think it’s actually flickering brighter rather than darker, so definitely something up.

A new switch could be an easy, cheap solution to try (if I can find a way to get my steering wheel off)

As a temporary test you can build up the contacts in the switch with some solder. They fail by the contact getting hot and sinking into the plastic so it eventually doesn’t get a connection. I did this with mine as a temporary fix while waiting for a new switch. But it had failed completely.
