v6 3.0 EFI toyota pickup 1995 4WD........ one of the cylinders is
leaking pressure through the head gasket. Is it ok to just change one
head and not the other if only one side is bad? How does this is
effect the performance of the engine? What is recommended?

You could do just one side, but why would you? Once you've got the
engine stripped down that far, it's very little extra work to remove the
other one. And if one's bad, the other soon will be. You have to buy
the gaskets in a pair, so you don't save any money.
Once the heads are off, take them to a machine shop for a basic
overhaul. Again, very little money - and money well spent.

Believe me once you get to that point you aren't saving any money by not
doing the other side.
