Hi Guys,

A bit of advice needed please. I am in process of removing heads on 4.0 Thor. I am hoping to leave the manifold on for removal. Is it possible to get to the lower rear bolt on the passenger (LH) side with a normal socket? I am not sure if it is going on straight or at a slight angle and really don't want to damage the bolt.

Thanks for any help.

The passenger side exhaust manifold is easy, drivers side rear bolt is the difficult one, easier if you drop the plastic inner wing
Sorry should have been more specific but I mean the exhaust manifold. At the moment I have left it on as worries the bolts will snap. The issue is the socket doesn’t seem to sit straight on the rear lower passenger head bolt as it buts up to the exhaust manifold. Just wondered if anyone has removed it with a normal socket with the exhaust manifold in place ?

the exhaust manifold bolts are quite hefty, i'd not expect them to snap
but, like i said, passenger side is easy, i just used regular 12 point socket on an extension
drivers side is harder with the steering shaft in the way. its possible though. put the socket on the bolt then put the extension on the socket, if its a bad fit, even better, or use a wobble joint

by wobble joint i mean something like this

Thanks @kermit_rr. Removed the manifold in the end and the bolts were just fine as you suspected :) Head now off and ready for the other side. Have a few wobble joints so should be ok if a bit difficult. After reading up will probably take out the wheel arch as you suggest.
