HI Guys,

My wife's Freelander 1 (2001) (1.8 Petrol.. yes, I know) has started playing up. This is the second time the car has done this.. the first time it resolved itself.

So, driving along fine and then suddenly the HDC light comes on and the revs start going through the roof. We stopped the car and turned off. Started her up and revved the engine up slowly. the revs stick and get slowly higher. We stopped the car and came back to it 20 minutes later. Start her up and the revs are still sticking, but the HDC light is no longer on. Take her for a little drive up the road and back and the HDC light comes on again for about 4 minutes and the revs still sticking.

I was initially thinking manifold pressure sensor (I've ordered a new one) but the HDC light has me confused and it appears an intermittent fault.

Now the only other thing is.. it's very wet here.. lots of water on the roads.. could something be shorting? What would be effected by lots of surface water? The ECU is dry, as is the air filter/box. All connectors look sound. The throttle housing is already a newer metal one.

Any help appreciated.
