I have posted this on another site but this one is the only place that there seems to be anyone else that has had similar issues. Please see below:
Hey, everyone!
I know that it is Christmas and that there will probably not be many replies but I am hopeful that someone might help a brother out...
Need to get the truck safety inspected and I need signal lights to do so.
I have had the battery out for months while I swapped the motor and trans out, got everything back together but when I drove down the street to get gas discovered that I don't have signal lights; trouble shooting done so far:
1) Wiggle the signal stalk like an idiot,
2) Cuss and swear,
3) Check fuses,
4) Check the interwebz on my cell phone while waiting for new tires to be installed,
5) Said "F*** it" I will look at it in the morning cause it was cold outside (-30).
*The lights still flash when I lock the door and the alarm arms*
When I woke up this morning and went to start the truck, battery was dead, not dead dead but not enough jam to turn over (is is suspect and due for warranty replacement)
So I had some time while I waited for the tow truck to show up so I did the following:
1) Checked fuses, all are okay;
2) Pulled out the flasher relay, only breaking a little of the plastic housing, again it is -30;
3) As the cover came off at the time of removal, I figured I would test the relay, it works;
4) I had a spare hazard relay, so I put it for sh*ts and giggles;
5) LET THERE BE LIGHT!! They worked!!!
6) The tow truck shows up to boost truck and we are off;
7) 2 mins into my drive, Right Rear signal light dies, flasher obviously goes into overtime for right signals;
8) I stop and check that it is the RR light that isn't working, left the truck running while I dropped the kid off at school;
9) 5min later, get into the truck and discover that the signal lights have stopped working again.
So does anyone have any other ideas because I am unable to just keep going through hazard switches as they are getting rarer and cost prohibitive.
I have since writing this gone, pulled and replaced both the passenger compartment fuse and the under bonnet fuse, both to no avail. I have also stripped and cleaned both of the hazard switches that I own, both that had previously worked, to ensure that all the contacts are free and clear.
The missus is working today so I am hanging out with my two kids and not working on my truck that need in a week to drive 1200Km to go to school for 8 months. So I am a little freaked out that this isn't working.
I am going to go and check the earth point later in the hope that that is why they are not working
Thanks,
Larry
