Hi All.
I am thinking of purchasing an Hawkeye Diagnostic tool (Bearmach) and am looking for advice as to weather this is a good deal below, not much time left if I want to get the second free unlock code.

As I have a FL1 2004 would you recommend I get the FL 2 as the free code if the tool is the right one and at that price cheers Arctic2

Yes it's a good deal. As you say not many 2nd free unlock codes available now. For some FL2 stuff you need a different connector which is additional cost but not a major problem. Hawkeye does loads of FL2 stuff.

I have contacted the seller and asked how do I go about getting the free code and was told once I receive the Hawkeye I phone or email omitec with the serial number of the machine and the model you want to unlock it to.

They will send you an unlock code for your first unlock, you can then enter the second code which we will send you with the machine.




I then sent another message asking if the deal still stands if I do not receive the item by the end of January, I am still waiting on an answer on that question.

I presume then that I ask to unlock for a Freelander 1 which is up to 06 and use the code they send me to open for FL 2 06 onwards ?

Rimmers also have a deal on as well but more expensive

They should in theory supply 1x hawkeye and 2x codes. Each code can be used once against the serial number of a hawkeye. You ask for both codes to be linked to your hawkeye serial number.

It may be a case they have already had the hawkeye set to FL1, using 1 code. So they supply a second code which allows you to add FL2 options to it.

Either way you get the same thing. A hawkeye with FL1 and FL2 options.
 
The Hawkeye as landed all I need now is to wait for Omitec to send me the first unlocking code, then I can give the seller a ring whom will send me the second unlocking code.

I would like a bit of advise from those in the know please my first unlock code choice of cause as got to be for the FL1 as that is what I have at the moment, would it then be wise to have the second code to unlock for FL 2 which is more than likely what I may move onto in the future.

I will also be looking for advise on how to set the Hawkeye up for the first time, is there any good threads on this that anyone can post a link to etc any and all opinions are welcome cheers Arctic2

I obtained the code today it was sent to me by email from Omitec
connected it to the Hawkeye as per ordered to by seller to unlock it to my FL1 TD4, once this was applied I then had to phone the seller and ask for my second code which was given to me so I could then also have the unlock code for the FL2.

Received the code by phone then had to email it to Omitec once again whom then sent me another unlock code, now get this which will over ride the first code so the Hawkeye will be unlocked for both the FL1 & FL2.

Why not just do that first time round ? anyway as it was late in the day I have not yet assigned the second, this I will do tomorrow then all I need to do is find a good tutorial of how to use and work the Hawkeye.

I did try a little test with it today after setting it up this was to do with the FBH couple of pics below, what does the err stand for I know it is error but in what way, any idea please members.

Also can using one of these brick the car altogether if so I must tread carefully :) cheers Arctic2

I was still writing this when yer posted yer last post.


To enter the Hawkeye license code yer need to power the Hawkeye oft yer vehicle. Plug one end of the cable into the odbii socket and the other into the Hawkeye. The Hawkeye will now power up using the power from yer vehicle via the odbii socket. As it powers up it will tell you what version software it's running.

When first powered up yer Hawkeye will display the main menu. The main menu displays which vehicles are already licensed for use with yer Hawkeye. The curser triangle stays in the same location as you scroll up/down the menu. If you press "tick" then you enter the menu option to the right of the curser triangle.

From the main menu select "User" menu using the up/down arrows then select the "tick" button. The screen will now display the User menu. Scroll down the list using the down button until the curser triangle points to the "Security" menu option. Now press "tick" to enter the Security menu. Scroll down the list to "Enter security key" option and press "tick" to enter it.

Yer now prompted to enter a 25 character code. This is the license code to tell the Hawkeye what vehicles it's allowed to work with. The curser will be located at the start of the code. Use the up/down buttons to change the first character to match the same first character of the license code. When the character is correct press the "tick" button. The curser will now move to the 2nd character. Continue the same method until all 25 characters of the license code have been entered correctly.

When all 25 characters have been entered press "tick" again. It may ask you to confirm (yes tick or no X) the license code. Press tick if it's correct. Not sure what happens next as I can't remember. It may just continue operating or may ask you to power down the Hawkeye, then power it up again. If you could let me know when you do your license what happens here I will edit these instructions to help others.

Under normal use:

If you go past the end of the displayed menu list with the up/down buttons the display loops back to the other end of the displayed list.

If you want to leave a menu you press X.

If the Hawkeye wants you to switch on the ignition after you enter a menu option, it will prompt to to do so. An example would be the engine computer. It will ask you to confirm this has been done. If it can't communicate with yer vehicle it will ask yer to check the cable etc is connected.

Once entered into a menu option where it previously asked you to turn on the ignition upon entry, it will request you to turn oft the ignition when leaving that menu option.

In certain vehicle computers it may request you to turn off the ignition, then turn it on again, when clearing fault codes. Sometimes there may be a counter counting down before it asks you to turn the ignition on again. Just follow the prompt.

If you need to use the convertor connector BA5077 (or any other connector) in series between the Hawkeye odbii connector end of the cable and the odbii socket on yer vehicle, it will ask you to do so with a prompt when you enter a menu option that requires the additional connector. It will also prompt you to confirm or cancel out of the option. The convertor connector alters the wiring connections.

To power down the Hawkeye pull out the odbii communication cable from yer vehicles obdii socket. You should be able to do this at any time, unless yer doing something active like clearing fault codes or programming options. Personally I prefer to X back to the main menu before powering down.

If yer about to use an option which may be a risk, like programming remote fobs, it may advise you that only a qualified person should continue to use that option, or something similar. I assume this is just a warning. You select "tick" to continue or X to leave the menu option.

The Hawkeye has the following keys:

Tick = ok, yes or enter
X = no, cancel, or leave menu option
<> = move left or right (depends on menu)
Up = moves up the display. Display rolls down if the displayed list is longer than the 4 line display.
Down = moves down the display. Display rolls up if the displayed list is longer than the 4 line display.


My Hawkeye's licensed for use on both Freelander 1 and Freelander 2. The question of whets best for you is a difficult one. I guess you have to go with yer gut feeling.

The Hawkeye contains software to work with all LR products. The license code unlocks/enables yer Hawkeye to work with certain LR vehicles. The first license code will license yer FL1 as per yer request. If you ask for a second vehicle they will provide you with a new license code. This new code will enable the previous vehicle (FL1) and yer new vehicle (FL2). If you were to buy an additional license code that new code would unlock/enable FL1 + FL2 + additional vehicle chosen.

License codes (unlock codes) are specific to the Hawkeye itself. They use the serial number on the rear of the Hawkeye. The supplied licenses are encrypted for protection. Theory being you pay for what yer Hawkeye can do. The more it can do, the more yer pay. The Hawkeyes serial number is programmed into yer Hawkeye during manufacture.

When I first got my Hawkeye it was running version 4 software. When version 5 became available I posted it back to Bearmach and they upgraded it to version 5, then posted it back. All for free. Sometime later version 6 became available then version 7. I recently sent it back and they upgraded it from version 5 to version 7, then posted it back. All for free again. Not sure how many times they will do this. You can also buy a power supply and programming cable to upgrade the software yerself.

There seems to be confusion on the web about Hawkeye software version/updates. The version 7 software in my Hawkeye can work on all/any LR product, if it's licensed to do so. Currently my Hawkeye is set to FL1 and FL2 only. If the manufacturer updates the software to add more features for example to the range rover L322, they will release a new software version. They probably include updates for several vehicles in each release. If no updates have been made to the FL1 or FL2 section, the FL1 and FL2 options will stay the same on the new version as they did on the old version 7 software, in this example. There's nothing wrong with that. It just means yer Hawkeye has the latest software which is handy if yer want to add another vehicle which has received update's in the latest software release.

Each time the Hawkeye software is upgraded you need to enter a new license code.

I can create a new video showing how to use the Hawkeye if it helps. I have some more filmed waiting to be edited and uploaded. Some example below:

Thank you very much for taking the time to type such a detailed reply most appreciated as is the link to your great videos regarding the Hawkeye, I will study these over next few day and nights and try to copy a few myself, I presume you had someone videoing it for you while driving :) have you bought the code breaker book if so is it worth while.

I am also going to try and build up some of the connectors once I think I am confident too use the Hawkeye ok, I already took a reading for the FBH which I think is not running as it should as it seems to be on at all times so need to investigate that asap, once again thank you :beer2:for you if we meet at any meets that occur through the year which I hope to try and get to this year. cheers Arctic2 (Steve)
 
also got the hawkeye and had it updated to version 7 ,

have found it with the new software to be a lot more stable and not say communication error

if however you have the adaptor plugged in required for abs and security and ur not in that menu it will throw up and error, so just use the adaptor in the required sections that it's needed for

hippo what do u think of the v7 , have u found new sections within it

looks like quite afew of us are now buying these Hawkeyes, as I think at least there 100 percent accurate apposed to some of the cheap Chinese ebay imports
 
I is a secret hippo. I have a pet octopus to assist when I need more than 2 hands.

I think the v7 is more stable. The issue over when to fit the additional BA5077 connector doesn't bother me. It's required to change the wiring. You only need it for certain computers within a FL. There's lot of different connectors which are used across different LR vehicles. It's not much of a problem to add/remove it when required. The alternative is to not be able to read those computers which require different connections.

I plan to re-film my video's now I have the v7 software so I can add to my you tube account sample footage of the different menu's for others to compare their Hawkeye data to. I'm watching out for 1.8, L series and td4 FL1's. And FL2 also.
 
I have now plugged in the Hawkeye twice and I am still in the dark as to how these tools are supposed to work, I think I have £264 paper weight on my PC desk :( and to add to it I now have the eobd Code Breaker book :mad: I think I am truly going round the bend :D

Is there a thread that can help a complete novice how to work or get a full reading of the FL1 with this tool please if not would it be a good idea if I started a new thread and those that know how to use them add to this thread is they so wished to.

That way all new comers to the site forum can find how the Hawkeye should be used in one place cheers Arctic.

Hi biggeeeee.
Thank you for the PDF I have looked through it before and have also downloaded it, but I am still not sure of what section I should be in to scan the whole car first time round to see it throws up any faults, and because I am unsure I think a bit tentative to scroll through just in case I press a button that should not be pressed.

So was looking for a fools system of working really :eek: ie straight black and white press button 3 in section two type of thing :D


I think also I read somewhere that you can connect the Hawkeye and drive with it connected and it will read all the engine etc ? but will it store it for you after you have arrived back to your home etc.

there is t an overall menu that tests the entire system at onve u have to use each menu

engine etc , u use the tick to enter into that menu

then select ur unit, u should have got a print out sheet showing what kind of ecus are fitted

u go through each one and press the tick for dtcs etc

then go through each one writing down any dtcs or fault codes then refereeing it to the code book

that's the short version

stay away from the reprogramming keys etc , if u press it by mistake either oress the cross or disconnect the lead and start again

hope that helps abit

There isn't a hawkeye fred that I know of that does this. I will film my hawkeye and show the buttons being pressed at the same time. This should help.
