just fitted new door seals to my 2 door rrc...old ones where fuc*ed..now lovely...but....and bugger but the doors now are a barstard to shut...the new seals are forcing the against the door and causing them to not shut well...passenger side i think will correct itself as the seals take up the differing gaps..however the drivers door...seems to have shown up the fact that the top hinge is knackered as it is forcing the door back so that the rear of the window frame is hitting the b piller.pooh!(as a tempory bodge have fitted teflon guide to a piller that slides up teflon guide on door, forcing door upwards at back so it now closes..imagine to triangles sliding against each other, one on door frame one on b piller..bodge yes...you try and buy a rrc hinge on boxing day!!:p)

now i had only replaced this hinge a year ago!!so first question..anyone know if genuine..not ****epart hinges are still about..(guess what one i used!??)

and 2nd question...is there a proper order/sequence (cant spell sequence..ooh..yes i can:D)to hang the door..now top hinge has no spacers (door to hinge and hinge to a piller)if fitted would never shut..car has never been in a shunt, but was built by brummies on a friday afternoon..hense i suspect the lovely non fitting doors,(wings,bonnet..etc..)once i have found new hinge i may have to alter the upper mounting (hinge to door)with a sod off club hammer to force it in abit..hense allowing to shim it up properly???
thoughts please..(other than what a tossa.etc..thanks)

me old two door mucka

I have obviously rebuilt the door as you have seen in the album me thinks,

I found the best way to get it back in the hole was to make up some ally shims out of 1.5 and 3mm plate. If your clever about the way you make em you can slide em in without having to take the door screws right out again :D

I greased em up well to beat the reaction with the steel and so they would slide in easy - well you know all about that eh :p

Hinge wise I saw some NOS on ebay for about £8 , I was gonna get em just to have em on the shelf as mine are ok- but forgot, do they still make em then?

BTW before I rebuilt that door the drop was so bad it had bent the dront wing and bottom corner of the door

its finding genuine hinges thats the problem..the one thats going is new...but i suspect ****part, defo not genuine as it cost £15..same as ones listed on most landy parts sites..(paddocks,ebay etc)

not keen on having to do again next year so looking for proper ones..(as have to remove snorkel and all plumbing ,atleast one dont have to remove scuttle panel etc.)

out with the hammer and suitable former later...slight door mods to push bit back where hinge bolts to door(hopefully too far),thus allowing me to fit shims to get it right..will do untill i can find gen hinge..fingers crossed cos i hate hate hate anything not being right on her...

to get cold air in...likes cold air..goes faster...

got bored..door done (atleast till new hinge found..)decided not to mod the door,so modded hinge..unbolted..(remember to use copperslip...so good,no bother) upper hinge from door leaving hinge attached to a piller..got out grinder, removed 1-2mm from back of hinge (side that bolts to door),painted, copperslipped and bolted together..lovely fitting door now...

yep it works...looked at my door...reminded myself i had spent a good few hours repairing it..ie no rust now..decided best to mod dodgy hinge rather than door..job done ..now to find out where cold air coming from..i feel a heater unit insitu disassembly coming up tonight..just hope its not fresh air intack seal..dont think it is though as no water ingress..
