Having a green lane trip in August if anyone would like to join us. Haven't been for about 5 years but lanes should be fine for anyone in a standard vehicle. Will be deliberately avoiding previous scratchy lanes, although some are quite tight. As per usual you won't need a winch, suspension lift, oversize tyres or any other such off road equipment.
You will need to bring food, fuel and drink and non rusty recovery points incase of breakdowns, rare with a Land Rover I know!
Start in Basingstoke area and finish somewhere over there.
Space for 1 or 2 vehicles.
Give me a shout if it's of any interest to you.

Bugger - I can’t make it anyway.
Tell you what though - next time you guys organise one down your way, let me know and I’ll come along.
It’ll be good to meet some more members - and I’ll even take the ribbing for being in a hippo from you Defenderer drivers.

You need something to make you smile, driving those bone-rattling lumps of rust-on-wheels 🤣

Will do. I presume when you get stuck you won't want a bone-rattling piece of rust to rescue you?
 
But the last defender I went laning with had to borrow tools to fix the fuel pump before we’d finished breakfast 😁

That was a good day out although some of the lanes have changed since last time there. Most of the lanes used to be tight but passable with only the odd chance of a scratch. In the 4 or 5 years we last went the council hasn't spent 1 penny on upkeep. Some lanes are now barely passable on a motorbike and some would not even be passable on foot! Maybe one or two could be classed as scratch free, rest are different levels of overgrown,
bridleways seem to be ok though. Few more lanes have been closed also. Another 5 years or so there will be nothing left to visit
All the same still enough good lanes you can squeeze down if not too bothered about paintwork.

Can the local GLASS rep help with getting the lanes cleared, either by a volunteer group or better still, by the council?
 
That looks a nice lane, but I hear ya about them becoming overgrowing and not looked after. A lot round here are the same, and I guess they are so far down the priority list they may as well not be on it.

As for Glass…. I don’t think my area has ever had a rep since I’ve been a member!

I will send out an email to the council, although it would be a waste of time at a guess.
The proper overgrown lanes would need a tractor and hedge cutter or some front mounted flail to clear them. You could never do it by hand regardless of how many people you had.

That is a good lane.
Maybe 10 years ago that lane was well known for damaging vehicles. It was then closed and partly regraded and reopened. Not long after a convenient tree fell down and blocked it, we removed it.
It is a tight lane in places and the bottom half is, essentially, a bed for a stream.
I presume it's the farm at the top who keep complaining and I noticed gates have been errected at either end, hopefully that's not a sign of a permanent closure.
Hampshire have a record of doing that.
