Just bought my first ever disco and love it but I've noticed an odd grinding type sound when I press the clutch pedal but it's only there when I accelerate. When I'm driving steady and just press the clutch to test it, it's fine, same with changing down. It's a '95 ES with 176K but in great general condition. Can anyone help please?

Why would you need to 'press the clutch' when your accelerating?
Are you riding the clutch and slightly pressing it as you accelerate? If so don't, you will wear it out.

Are you deliberately wanting clutch slip for traction reasons?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I meant it's only when I'm going up through the gears, I'm not riding it or looking for slip. It's mainly on 1st to 4th, going from 4th to 5th it hardly makes a noise and I can't feel it through the pedal as much either. Thanks!

Sounds like your clutch release bearing, I had a similar problem
But got over 5 years and near 60k miles before it collapsed alltogether :)
