crap around or in the middle of the disc.
How long was the grinding noise going on before you changed the pads? My old vectra did it with a new set of pads, later found they were the police spec ones, hard as ****! Went to halfords and bought the ferodo ones, stoped the grinding noise.

I've just replaced the discs and pads on our FL. ( Early non vented discs )
The set removed made that grinding sound every time the brakes were applied for the two years they were on .
The replacement ones don't and give off much less brake dust than the old ones.
I put it down to materials used in the pads .

Same with my vectra, harder more dense material in the pads.
My brakes are doing the same. We bought the car a month ago and it had new pads and discs. Iv checked them and they all look fine. I will check the sided thing out.

Jack up the wheels in turn and spin them. The cause should be fairly obvious.

I concur, brakes are so safety critical that there can be no room for ineptitude working on them. I'm surprised noone's suggested looking at the brake shoes, as it could be the rears that are metal to metal.
Thanks. Thing is it's not all the time.
To he pads and discs are new. Iv had a look at them and all looks ok. I saw somewhere that the pads could have gone in wrong?..

I doubt that is the case. I can't remember if the pads are sided but I don't think so.
More likely a rusty weather plate is flopping about and rubbing. They usually end up being ripped off because of issues like you're describing.
It's a much heavier grinding than that however. I drive 60 miles round trip yesterday, the brakes didn't make a sound for most of the trip but during 5he slow braking areas the grinding returned.
So frustrating! I can't pull her apart right now as we have a baby due any moment and I don't want anything to go wrong when labour starts!
