Just thought I'd shove my ugly mush in 'ere and say 'ello.

I've owned more Range Rover Classics than I'd like to admit, and at the moment I'm in the process of getting round to replacing the gearbox in my much loved '87 3.5 Auto (Turbo :) )

Found this forum through googling for the easiest way to change the gearbox in one of these things - 1st time I've killed the 'box in one.

So, "Ello".

yous got a turbo on the v8?Nice!hello by the way

Ello!

Certainly have, some massively oversized Rotomaster job, intercooled as well :), it lags somewhat, bugger all below about 2500 RPM but I'm trying to work out a way of putting a hybrid jobbie or something similar on to bring boost in from lower revs. Janspeed's way of doing the turbo installation was certainly effective once it's on boost, and it doesn't compromise off-road performance but turbo setups have improved massively in the last 20 years...

Problem at the moment is the ZF 'box is only rated to around 300 lb ft, and when the boost comes in I suspect the box is having to handle more than that but all at once instead of progressively. If I can sort something with the turbo set up I'd ideally like it to boost earlier without being as peaky.

you could always get a supercharger for the lower revs!A lot of peps have made similar upgrades like bigger engines but are let down by trashing the boxes

Heh, I doubt I'll be putting a supercharger on it. It's already very, very limited for space under there. Takes around 25 mins just getting the plug leads fitted on the o/s head..
