Hello everyone...

Greetings from Malaysia!

Have looked in the forum a few times in search of info but not posted before.

Used to own a 1997 P38 RR but am now running a 2002 Disco Td5. The RR was very comfortable but was a gas guzzler but not so practical for me as it only had 5 seats. The Disco has 7 seats which makes it much more practical.

Anyone familiar with Malaysia will know that cars here are horribly expensive due to the duties imposed on cars. Hence the prices that we pay would be considered outrageous in the UK.

The Discovery was quite a popular model in Malaysia but the Dico III and IV are simply beyond the reach of most people.

The Disco I was fully imported with V8, 2.0 MPi as well as Tdi engines. There were various trim specs right up to the ES version with airbag, ABS and twin sunroofs.

Disco II however was actually assembled in Malaysia from CKD kits supplied from UK. Pre 2004 models had drivers airbag, ACE, rear air suspension, ABS, TC, HDC but no sunroof. Not sure whether CDL was fitted. The post 2004 gained twin airbags but lost the rear air suspension. All were Td5 models. I believe the British High Comission did import a few V8i for its use.

I think when new, the price for Disco II here was RM240,000. At the present exchange rate of about 1GBP to 5RM.... the price of Disco II was equivalent of about GBP48,000. Very steep when compared to UK!

I got mine bout 6 months ago. It had been purchased by a company in 2003 as a back up car for the Chairman and the CEO whenever their Volvos were being serviced or as their occasional weekend car. It had been fully serviced at Land Rover Malaysia from new and had a genuine 67000 km when I acquired it.

I have added some accessories to it since I got it namely the wheel arches, front and rear lamp guards and roof rail extensions. I changed the bumper lights to the later clear ones and rewired the reverse lights to the bumper and changed the previous upper reverse lights to indictors using orange bulbs. Looks much neater that way.

Will post some pix later once I have worked out how to do it.
