I know various GPS topics have been covered before but if I was to install something like the Pioneer AVIC-F500BT or a later version in the cubby hole box at the top of the dash - modifications needed are on google - then as my old Pioneer radio has given up the ghost am I correct in thinking I do not need a replacement radio as it's all built in to the AVIC unit......
Does not seem a lot of point in leaving a non working radio installed in the dash but then I do not want an open space either - have I missed something here -
Many thanks

It's not. Its a GPS and USB (and iPod) device only. No CD, no DVD and no radio. You have to interface it to your stereo before it will produce any sound.

I have just managed to get an Avic 500 via eBay, just waiting for it to arrive then I'm going to fit it, I thought it did the lot too!
My radio has just died off, so I thought it was a good time to do the conversion.
I have a separate Garmin SATNAV at the moment which is mounted in the coin holder next to the clock.
I have a couple of other good radio/DVD units in the garage, so at least I don't have to buy another as well.
I'll photograph the job as I do it and put up a post.
I'm going to cut the plastic to make a good fit, so it should be an interesting modification.

I´ve fitted the parrot asteroid single din, witch runs on android and has all you could think and more, radio, usb music, ipod (proper interface on the dash), gps navigation (with several programs to choose from), bluethooth music and phone calls, text message read aloud, internet, etc etc...

Best part is that it´s plug&play (had to buy an adaptor plug) and doesn´t have that boy race look that all others seem to have stick to.
