So the day came and they both were delivered.

Looks a lot better just loosely bolted together.

30 mins and 4 men later.

This is when we started to notice some possible problems.

1) support for the rear of the gear box is missing and was held on with a bit of blue rope and hanging at funny angle. So we placed a jack under it and lifted it. Also put a ratchet under to make sure.

2) steering column stripped. looks like a new one is required.

3)then we noticed the engine block was a wee bit on the ****. Looks like the drivers side mount is about and inch too low. This means that when i get a rear support made up this week its not going to work as one side will be higher than the other. What i was thinking was possibly putting a few steels plate shims in between the shock and the mount and placing a longer bolt in? would this work or is it engine out and new mount?

4) well the bell housing we knew about but here is the pic

5) steering rod not fitting into arm? it seems the arm from the power steering doesn't take the steering rods i have. Is it ok to just widen this out?

The engine mount brackets are different for the 2.5 so someone will have welded it to the chassis like that. It doesn't look too bad at all other than the problems mentioned. Will you just weld a new gearbox crossmember in or make a bolt on one?

The engines probably going to have come out of a defender or 90/110 and it'll have a timing belt, not a chain if you're going to do work on it.

Yeah that's were it came from. There are two new plates welded under the chassis at the right point for the rear. So going to get some box steel with two plates welded on the ends and bolt through. The only problem I have here is that one of the mounts will sit nicely on the support but the other is about and inch higher.

Ok another thing I didn't mention is my front prop is about and inch too short! I have seen other cars with spacers between diff and prop. Would this work? A couple of shims of 6-8mm steel.

series gear box cross member removed then ?just refit another ,spacers are fine in props ,but box position shouldnt be changed when fitting 2.5

So the cross member should be standard? If so I can go get one from a breakers near by.

should be unless theyve moved engine which accounts for short front prop ,unless its not the correct prop ,looks like mount plates for box are missing

I have mounts that look like the engine mounts. One slightly bigger than the other. When held in place they sit just about level with bottom of the chassis.
