Ok, so I've had it just over a month now. Got it serviced and tidied up. Just needs a bit of welding inside rear wheel arches and the BFG ATs are going on tomorrow afternoon. :D

So now I need to make a few changes for slightly improved off-road performance and protection.

I have a rear bumper on order from Discoparts which is step 1.

Next step is front bumper Can anyone suggest a decent one? I'm leaning towards the Bearmach one, but if anyone has any experience with others, any advice would be welcome.

I'd like a winch, but I don't have a lot in this budget. I'm not going to be doing anything serious up near vertical slopes, I just want something to pull me out if I get stuck in the mud or ground-out when on my own.

Rocksliders with treesliders next - seen these on Discoparts. Again - anyone got any suggestions on which ones?

Finally, guards. Diff and tank guard would be good as I have no plans at the minute of lifting the car. But what's the difference between a sump and steering guard? When I see them on websites they look very similar and seem to protect the same area?

This is all a bit new to me. I've read up a lot on what's out there, but it's hard to tell what is good and what is trash. So the best bet is to ask those who've done it already!!

Cheers.

Front bumper - check firstfouroffroad.co.uk they are quite reasonably priced .. Personally I like the devon4x4 front winch bumper but its £$£$£$£ pricey ..

rock sliders - there are lots out there .. go for ones with jacking points especially as you aren't lifting your truck .. they can be invaluble for lifting a tyre out of the crap to whack some rocks / waffles etc underneath to get you out .. also get the type that connect to the outriggers .. not just the sills .. look for millservices, cheviot4x4, scorpion .. they all do them ..

diff guards .. go for the g-string type .. these give you a nice plate to slide over and also protect the diff flange .. QT services do them or straight forward supplies used to do a pair for 50quid

Tank guards - look for guardian4x4 on ebay .. his new tank guards are the dog's .. pricy but bloody good !

I havent got meself a winch yet but have been told that if on a budget go for the Warn/Tabor 9K this is a bugdget winch built by warn so has the quality you need...

Hope this helps

on the issue of steering/sump guards I dont know the difference but would like to ...

thanks for your ideas guys.

I'll take a look at these this weekend.

I'm really keen to get going, but without the right set up first I will probably smash a diff up, or at least destroy the bottom of my front bumper.

Hopefully these mods should help!

Cheers.
