Any one got any ideas. Last week my 1958 serise 11 would not start when i removed one of the glow plugs it looked like it had been hit with a ball pain hammer but the rest were ok . I changed said plug and every thing was good. Then this morning would not start again removed plugs and two looked like they had been hit and two were fine. Ive had top cover off and it dose not look like it has droped a valve.?
 
How would you know it has or hasn't dropped a valve just by looking in the rocker cover?

Why would you think it has dropped a valve anyway?

Have you been running it without an air filter?

Hi thanks for your reply. I have not ran it with out air filter what made me think valve becuase theres only two things that move in block piston and valve. But two honest ive not got a clue (only worked on petrol before).But its def looks like its been hit.
 
Well, I can assure you the glow plug can NOT have been hit!
The plug and the injector are NOT in the combustion space where the piston and valves are. They are in a little separate pre-combustion chamber fed through a small hole to and from the main cylinder.

These are call INDIRECT injection engines.

They have some advantages mostly a low speeds, but DIRECT injection engines start easier and run better at higher revs.
