This has not been an issue but now were getting cold mornings its sometimes struggling to start. I have replaced the glow plugs as I figured they were probably due replacement but this has not cured the problem.

I have put a volt meter on the glow plugs and they are not getting power. I think there may be a fault with the relay as it clicks immediately as the ignition is switched on, rather then waiting say 5 seconds then clicking off. Is this likely to be a dodgy relay, bad earth or a blown fuse somewhere? The light on the dash still extinguishes after 5 seconds but I asssume this is on its own timer unrelated to the relay.

Any suggestions before I replace the relay?

Thanks

James

The relay should click as the ign turned on, then depending on how cold it is determines how long it stays on.
So if its clicking its probably working just as a relay should, but its got no power to the relay to the heavy brown wire.

I have just found a blown fuse in the engine compartment, and one missing entirely so I would say that could be a fairly good place to start.

Always check the basics first!

which fuse is the one for the glow plugs that is located in the engine bay if looking at the fuse block from the front of the engine. The fuse that is blown would be the 2rd one, and the 1st one is missing altogether.

Thanks
