Getting stuff out of your fuel tank... other than fuel

ok, rather stupidly ive managed to drop a piece of plastic pipe (1.5" long, 1/2" diameter) into my fuel tank

i was filling up from my jerry can with nozzle attachment, on the end of which is a small flexi plastic bit which seems to have dropped off into my tank.

ive got an 1984 90 which has the massive bore filler bit.

i filled it to the top hoping it might 'float' up the filler neck... but it didnt

is this a serious problem, will it degrade, and can i get it out some how?

I wouldn't worry about it - shouldn't cause a problem.

hope not. i wasnt sure how big the pipe was that goes from the tank onto the filter/pump etc.

its depends on the type of plastic . i'd be tempted to say just leave it as it will be a **** load of work to get it out. you'd need to wait till yer tank was empty or drain it then remove the tank and give it a good shake upside down.
if yer worried about it melting in the tank get another piece the same and leave it in a closed container wiff some petrol ( or doosul) in it. if that dint melt you should be ok.

donno exactly, but the i/d is a lot less than 1/2 inch.

hmmmm, how long would i have to leave it for before it melts? or just keep an eye on it over time and when it melts... panic!

im hoping it floats and will somehow bob up into the wide filler neck.

cant beleive ive been such an idiot!

i am not removing tank and arsing about. i will prob break something thats allready corroded and land myself in a world of financial pain.

yer but i try to limit it to 4things a month

so far ive got front turret and ring/lock barrels...

feels like it sometimes

i meant my shock turret. i was down salsbury last weekend and one by one the bolts disapeared

i drove home with my damper being held in by 1 bolt!

got my parts this morning though. changed it and the turret ring in the hour

im getting better!

You could wait till the tank is low (drain the rest out if need be), take your drivers seat panel up unscrew the pickup pipe plate, and have a look in the tank with a mirror torch etc... You probaly would be able to fish it out that hole if its not caught up behind a baffle.

not a bad idea disco. i know the one you mean. is it a wide diameter then? i could see where the thin pipes were. i guess your on about where these attach too...

... i may just forget about it. i could find all sorts in there! number plates, hubcaps, bits of wood.

this was no boating accident!
