Getting rid of the vinyl on the lower dash and painting it.

Iirc recent thread with a link to a 90 for sale, and it was almost a series clone, looked real cool, not sure if dash was vinyl or bare metal?

Lower dash is only to transfer the heat. When you remove the vinyl you may find tin worm.
Watch if you remove the lower vent flaps the spring clips are a pain to relocate

The new dash is pretty solid, it will need a bit of work to look decent but no rot. I am worried about noise, removing the vinyl could contribute to cabin noise. As for heat I dont know if it is a good thing or bad thing, does the vinyl act like a insulator or will the plenum act like a radiator giving off radiant heat, either way it could be nice to warm hands on.

Never notice any noise when I had a metal skinned panel. It’s well fixed so should not vibrate. As for heat transfer, Never even thought of this but the top cover has a thin foam internal.
I would put vinyl on,it may cover any sharp edges
